Infrastructure & specialised hospital expansion in Dubai

Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA) has just launched a massive development plan for Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), investing AED 1.3 billion into Phase 1 of expansion. This plan includes a brand-new LEED Platinum–certified office building (13,000 m² over nine floors) and a purpose-built medical complex (5,800 m²) – aimed at expanding clinical, research and administrative capacity.

The new medical complex will house modern facilities such as surgical theatres, diagnostic imaging, labs, outpatient clinics, and medical-office spaces – built in a flexible “shell-and-core” design so hospitals can adapt the spaces to their needs. Besides that, the expansion includes improved infrastructure: multi-storey parking, electric vehicle charging stations, smart-parking integration and accessibility features – making access easier for patients, staff and investors alike.

This expansion is coming at a time when Dubai’s overall healthcare capacity is significantly increasing. According to Dubai Health Authority (DHA) data: the total number of licensed healthcare facilities in Dubai rose from 3,431 in 2019 to 4,922 in 2023. Also, the number of healthcare professionals jumped from about 39,500 to nearly 58,800 in the same period. This growth helps meet demand from both residents and medical tourists.

With this infrastructure build-out, Dubai strengthens its role as a regional hub for advanced care, medical tourism, and health investment. DHCC’s expansion – combining clinical capacity, sustainable building standards, and smart infrastructure – makes the city more attractive to global healthcare providers and investors. The move signals that Dubai wants to offer high-quality tertiary and specialised care locally rather than relying on patients going abroad.
